Hey guys, love your show!! Do the “Clip On” line counters work with spinning reels, or just baitcasters?? The line on a spinning reel kinda comes out in a spiral, so not sure if it will work!!!
Hi Tom, to be honest I have not tried it on a spinning reel. I will ask around and see if I can get some information for you from someone who has personally tried it on a spinning reel.
The Rapala Line Counter has a line lock which should take care of holding the line in. The other issue is that you would probably have to run it upside down on the rod and then turn your rod upside down to read the display.
I would highly recommend a level wind reel for trolling, especially if you run in-line planer boards. When pulling in boards to clear lines, change baits, and then fighting fish, the direct cranking power of a level wind makes things much easier. If you are looking for a level wind reel exclusively for trolling, then make it a line counter. But using a baitcaster combined with the clip on Rapala Line Counter is another option.
